Physics Students Create Rube Goldberg Machines

Mrs. Walters’ gave her physics students a simple task: build a machine to pop a balloon. But in classic Rube Goldberg fashion, the machine must use a variety of engineering devices and inventions to pop the balloon in as many steps as possible. Working in small groups and incorporating themes from Star Wars to professional wrestling, the students concocted elaborate, ingenious, and sometimes hilarious, machines that must be seen to be believed.
