Setting the Stage for Cinderella

Coming off of 2015’s successful staging of “Mary Poppins,” GCA’s theater director Bill Hardwick set his sights on a new challenge: staging Broadway’s modern “Cinderella.” Multiple costume changes, large set pieces, magical effects and a show-stopping carriage prop might have dissuaded another theater director at a small private school, but Hardwick has never shied away from a challenge.  Senior Mary Manship, a veteran of five drama productions, describes the camaraderie among the students as the staging and singing has come together. The students have worked since January in preparation for the show in late April. Vocal parts have been rehearsed, staging has been set, acting scenes have been practiced. Meanwhile, the set design class has been busy designing, building and painting various scenes for the elaborate show. Mary describes her excitement for the upcoming musical: “I am excited for one last hurrah in theater and I know that this show will be great!”
