Sitting expectantly with fishing gear in hand, over 30 3rd and 4th grade students gathered in the auditorium after school on Wednesday to prepare for their fishing expedition. Led by superintendent/elementary principal Bruce Peters, and chaperoned by high school students and parents, students carefully listened to safety instruction before venturing out to the small pond on the north side of campus. With a little practice, the students were soon baiting, casting and reeling in fish all on their own. Soon, every student had caught their own fish.
Mr. Peters describes the intent behind the fishing experience: "I believe GCA is a family, and a lot of learning happens outside of the classroom. GCA elementary is going to work on creating fun learning activities outside of the normal school day so student can have more learning opportunities, build stronger relationships with students and staff, and help them understand that learning is fun."
